Volunteers – It’s Time to Shine!

It’s been quite the week at VC. We had the privilege of meeting some of Calgary’s brightest advocates and volunteers AND the Governor General of Canada, wow!

Volunteerism is taking centre stage. Mayor Nenshi is all over citizen engagement, the Governor General has made it one of his three central themes, and, if you’ve watched any commercials lately, doing good and community involvement have become a pretty popular brand to be associated with!

This week as we wrap up our celebration of National Volunteer Week, we’re thinking about how far we’ve come. Recently, a (very) popular new TV show had a context that included a chance to volunteer with the cast. It’s not your envelope stuffing in a basement volunteerism anymore!

So here’s to you and all of the your efforts to make our communities vibrant! If you’re a tireless volunteer management professional, a new volunteer, a youth activist, an employee volunteer, or a seasoned volunteer, this week we celebrate you! We say thank you for contributing to the beautiful fabric of our caring community!
